OPTION 1: Self-Recorded Video Submission

If you prefer to record your reflection independently rather than participate in a live interview, please consider the following: We welcome your submission and may edit or shorten the recording as needed to fit the final documentary format.
3–10 minutes | Respond to 1–2 reflection questions or discuss what is important to you
Instructions:
Choose 1–2 questions from the list below or prepare your own submission conversation. If you would like, share some information about yourself– (not required), how long you have been in the field, what field of practice do you work in? It is also an option to just share your story as a social worker and not respond to one of the suggested questions below.
When you are ready to record:
● Find a quiet, well-lit space. Film with your phone or camera horizontally (landscape mode).
● Speak from the heart—no need to be perfect or polished.
● Do not include other people in your recording, unless they have signed and agreed to being recorded via the request to be interviewed form. (no clients)
● Upload video and give editing permissions to Erika at erikajacobson492@gmail.com

Suggested Reflection Questions:
● Why did you choose social work, and what keeps you here?
● What makes you proud to be a social worker?
● How does the NASW Code of Ethics guide you in your daily work?
● Have you ever faced a moment where you had to choose between what was legal and what was ethical?
● What’s one thing you wish the public—or lawmakers—better understood about social work in your state?
● Can you share a story that reminds you why this work matters—something about joy, connection, or resilience?
● How do you sustain yourself and stay grounded in this work?
● What is your biggest concern for the future of social work?
● What gives you hope right now?
● If you could speak to the entire profession, what action steps are next to meet the mission of social work?

OPTION 2: Recorded Interview with the Producer

If you'd like to share more of your story or prefer a conversation-style approach, you can participate in a guided interview with the documentary producer. Interviews can be conducted virtually or in person (depending on your location and interviewer availability).
This option is ideal for those who want to explore multiple topics, tell a fuller story, or who may be unsure about recording technology. We'll walk you through the questions in a supportive, conversational style—no need to prepare anything in advance.

How it Works:
Send an email to Jessyca and Erika with interview times that work for you in the next two weeks. Plan for 30 minutes. Someone will reach to confirm date and time, location (zoom or in person).
○ erikajacobson492@gmail.com
○ Jvandercoy.naswne@socialworkers.org
The filmmaker will guide a conversation with the following themes in mind:

Sample Interview Prompts:
1. Tell us about yourself- your work and your decision to become a social worker.
2. Have you seen shifts in the role of social workers since you earned your degree?
3. Describe a moment when your ethics were challenged in a work setting.
● How did you navigate that situation?
● What guided your decision-making when the “right” choice wasn’t clear?

4. How have recent state or federal policies impacted your work or the people you serve?
● Have you had to change how you practice because of new laws or regulations?
● How do you manage the tension when policy feels misaligned with professional ethics?
● Are there new barriers you’re encountering?
● How do you stay rooted in your values when the environment shifts around you?

5. Relationships are a “superpower” of social work, a conduit to healing and justice.
● A core value of our profession is the importance of human relationships. What does that mean to you personally, and how do you stay rooted in this value in your everyday work—especially in challenging systems?

6. What keeps you going in this work?
● Is there a story, a person, or a moment that re-centered you when you were close to stepping away?

7. What role do social workers play in protecting democracy, equity, or human dignity?
● How do you see your work connecting to broader movements for justice and freedom?
● What does our mandate for social and political advocacy mean to you?

8. What concerns do you have about the future of the social work profession?
● Are there threats you see to the integrity of the field?

● What gives you hope that social work can meet these challenges?
